Cool Beans: The Bishop reads to kids

It was crazy hat day at St. Joseph the Worker School Monday when Bishop Alfred Schlert arrived to read to hundreds of students as part of the school’s week-long celebration of reading.

The Cool Bean is a heartwarming story of how it can be difficult to fit in to the cool crowd sometimes, but how what’s really cool is to be kind.

“So you see,” the Bishop said when he finished reading the book to kids seated on the floor of the gym, under a sea of colorful hats, “everybody here at school is part of the same family. We all have something to offer.

“Each of us has a place in God’s love,” the Bishop said. “There is no cool or uncool. We are all beans that he loves so much.”
