In a gesture of solemn commemoration of the death of His Holiness Pope Francis, His Excellency, The Most Reverend Alfred A. Schlert, Bishop of Allentown, has directed the tolling of bells throughout the Diocese of Allentown on Friday, April 25 at noon.
In a memo to priests of the Diocese, Father Keith A. Mathur, Chancellor, said Bishop Schlert asked that the bell be tolled 88 consecutive times, if possible, one for each year of Pope Francis’ life on this earth.
The memo was copied to deacons, seminarians, diocesan employees, parishes, and schools.
The Diocese thanks the clergy and the faithful for their cooperation and support in coordinating our local diocesan efforts to honor the death of the Roman Pontiff.
